Remedial Checks
Free home checks that follow DepEd’s CRLA and Phil-IRI steps for reading, and the Rapid Math Assessment task areas for maths.

Remedial assessment
Find out exactly where a struggling reader or maths learner is, the way Philippine public schools do it. These home checks follow the structure of DepEd’s CRLA, Phil-IRI and Rapid Mathematics Assessment, with my own passages and questions.
Sit with the child, one to one, for about 15–20 minutes. Grades 1–3 follow the CRLA steps: letter sounds, then words or sentences. Grades 4–6 follow the Phil-IRI steps: a silent screening test, then oral reading of graded passages if needed.
For Grades 1–3. The child answers 4 questions in each task area used by DepEd’s Rapid Mathematics Assessment: numbers, fractions, adding, taking away, shapes, patterns, time, length and mass (plus multiplication and money from Grade 2). A task counts as passed at 3 of 4 correct (75%). For Grades 4–6, use the maths skills check.
These are informal home checks modelled on DepEd’s assessment structure (CRLA, Phil-IRI as revised in DepEd Order No. 14, s. 2018, and the Rapid Mathematics Assessment). They are not official DepEd results. Your child’s school gives the official assessment at the start and end of the school year.
